Like many, I enjoyed the moment yesterday. Watching the great dealmaker unable to even construct a deal with his own party and watching the" Knights who say Nicht, also known as the republican congressional delegation unable to do something they have been promising for seven years was enjoyable. At the end of the day we had the Three Stooges gathered in the oval office. Apparently the head panjandrum earlier had a tantrum and vowed revenge upon the disloyal Republican congressmen who" suckered him". By the time he appeared on television he had moved to his petulant mode. Having stated repeatedly that the affordable care act was a disaster and had to be fix for the benefit of the American people, he now claims no responsibility to do so. Apparently he feels no responsibility as president to solve what he claims to be a disastrous problem if his followers have the temerity to reject anything he approves or suggests. You now is content to let the American healthcare system hi there implode or explode, he seems to think these terms mean the same thing, with total disregard to the effect upon 20 million or so of our citizens. He was flanked by Tom Price, former orthopedic surgeon and former Congressman ,who is an architect of this plan that has been condemned by nearly every medical and hospital association in the United States, and Mike Depends, master of the insincere smile whose job it is to carry trumps shit around the country and tell people it smells like perfume.
The rub in all this is that the only reason this abomination did not pass the house was that it was opposed by the Freedom caucus who wanted an even worse bill that would deny coverage to even more people. At the end of the day we are still left with a lying incompetent as president and a congressional majority that believes that tax cuts for the wealthy and a smaller government the denies benefits to those who need the most is the answer to all problems. We need to remember the budget proposals of Paul Ryan's circa 2009 which were deemed implausible buy impartial economists and would've eliminated many much-needed programs such as headstart, children's healthcare ,meals on wheels, food stamps and unemployment benefits of any duration. These people clearly think that those on the lower scale of income are somehow morally deficient and must be weaned from their dependency.
Everyone agrees our healthcare system must be fixed. The expensive way would be to reinstate the government payments to the Insurance company participants in the exchanges to compensate them for the requirement they take on people with pre-existing conditions an expensive health care needs. And, the inexpensive way to do it is the public option which at present is politically him possible, Probably because it makes so much sense.
So, I guess we can enjoy our moments of pleasure at Trump and the republican congresses inability to govern in any sensible fashion but realize they are still in charge.
